6yo b m Olden Times - Miss Fortywinks
Owned by: Mr JT Brown
Jockey: Harry Bannister
Comment: Has been more competitive since switched to handicaps for last two runs. She was no match for the winner when runner up at Stratford (2m2f, good to firm) in June. We step her up in trip again and she should put in a good performance on a track she knows well.

Worcester has the feel of a broad, open, uncomplicated jumps track set beside the River Severn, and that riverside setting shapes both its atmosphere and its racing. It’s a left‑handed, flat circuit with long, sweeping bends and a generous home straight, the sort of layout that lets horses find a rhythm rather than forcing them into stop‑start scrambles. Because the track is so level, races are usually run at a smooth, even tempo, and the best jumper with the best engine tends to come out on top.
The fences are fair and evenly spaced, and the whole place suits fluent, accurate jumpers rather than quirky types who need time to organise themselves. The long run‑in gives hold‑up horses a chance if the pace has been strong, but front‑runners can be hard to reel in on good ground because the circuit encourages momentum. Summer jumping is Worcester’s identity now, and the ground is often on the sounder side, which gives the racing a bright, lively feel and attracts trainers looking for a reliable surface.
The riverside location is both a charm and a vulnerability. On a warm evening the place feels relaxed and open, with wide views across the infield and a friendly, local crowd. But the proximity to the Severn means the course can flood in winter, which is why it no longer stages a cold‑season programme. When it does race, though, the atmosphere is easy going and the viewing is excellent, with spectators able to follow almost the entire circuit from the stands.
Worcester has a clear, modern identity: a fair, flat, pace‑friendly summer jumps track that produces honest racing and attracts a broad mix of West Country, Midlands and northern yards, all looking for a straightforward test on good ground.
