York racecourse open their gates for 2026 on Wednesday as the May meeting kicks off on the Knavesmire.

Paul Mulrennan takes the ride on Sondad in the six furlong Churchill Tyres Handicap as our top-rated horse is unleashed for the season. Now rated 93 after a very good season in 2025, he ran well off this mark last time at Ascot and can remain competitive.

The Resdev Scholar will line up for the seven furlong Conundrum HR Consulting Handicap as the son of Mehmas has his fourth race of the year. A winner of his final three starts in 2025, he will aim to get back to winning ways after finishing third at Beverley last time. Al Najashi looks the horse to beat as he bids for his sixth consecutive victory.
