Veteran campaigner Ring Of Gold is back on familiar terrain on Tuesday as he heads to Southwell, where Joanna Mason takes the ride in his bid to secure a sixth all‑weather victory. Now nine years old, he isn't the force of old and he's dropped down into classified company with a rating of 49, but he showed he still retains ability having secured back‑to‑back successes at Newcastle in the Autumn. He advertised his well-being in his most recent outing, also at Newcastle, which saw him beaten only half a length by Chris's Mate, although the winner let the form down when unplaced next time.

The son of Havana Gold will tackle the first division of the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At betmgm.co.uk Classified Stakes, a race that looks well within his reach if he brings the form that he showed in the autumn. The race marks his sixteenth appearance at the Nottinghamshire track, yet a victory there has so far eluded him although three placed efforts show that he handles Southwell well enough.

American Rose looks the one to beat here. Her last three races read 223, and she's been consistent this year in classified races. Stacey Racey, runner up to the in-form Royal Jet at Lingfield last time looks the best of the rest.

What What What

Joining Ring Of Gold at Southwell is Tomlinson Racing's What What What who tackles the second division of the Midnite Are Upping The Betting Game Handicap. Joanna Mason takes over from Lewis Chalkley as the four-year-old attempts to get back to winning ways. He acts on the track, having run well when third to Fine Claret back in January 2025 and he'll be having just his third start at Southwell.

What What What will be making his 20th career start, having recorded one victory and three places. His sole win came at Newcastle in March 2025 under Billy Garritty and this will be only the third time he's been partnered by Joanna Mason.

The race split has remarkably handed our horse what looks the easier half, with all five of the last time out winners being drawn in Division I. However, there are some in-form horses in the field who have been knocking at the door of late.

Piperstown looks one horse likely to run a big race. Kevin Frost's chestnut has been in good form this year and his 2026 with one win and two places at Wolverhampton. He acts at Southwell, having recorded wins over five and six furlongs here, and he is reunited with Oliver Stammers who rode him to victory last month.

What What What is a horse who likes to run from the front but he may face a contest for the lead from Top Biller and Eldeyaar who also race prominently.
