Ring of Gold drops into classified company for the first time at Newcastle on Tuesday.

A five-time winner on the all weather, his rating has now fallen to 50 which gets him into the seven furlong Always Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Classified Stakes.

The son of Havana Gold recorded back to back course and distance wins here in September but hasn't troubled the judge since and he'll be reunited with Billy Garritty - who has two wins from four rides abords Ring Of Gold - as he bids for his first victory of the season.

The classfied race conditions mean that horses rated 0-50 face each other on level terms, irrespective of BHA ratings. Hence our horse, rated 50, runs at level weights against horses rated below 50 to whom he would concede weight under handicap conditions.

Green Valentine and Superior Council are the other horses rated 50 and can be considered well in at the weights like Ring Of Gold.

Superior Council, runner up last time out in better company than this, looks the horse to beat. Rory, despite only being rated 47, ran very well last time in a similar event when third to Eagles Whistle. The winner has since won twice and the form looks good giving Paul Mulrennan's mount a good chance.
