It's always a bittersweet moment when we retire our racehorses.

However, the sadness of saying goodbye is tempered with the joy of seeingthem retire from the track sound and healthy and ready for a new start.

Two of our favourite horses were retired in 2025 and both of them have found wonderful retirement homes.

Copper Mountain had lived here all of her life, havign been bred by owner/breeder Brian Padgett. She latterly raced for the Laura Mason Syndicate and won five races from 44 starts before being retired.

Copper Mountain was rehomed to Anne Johnston in Essex. Coincidentally she is just a stone's throw from Chelmsford Racecourse, where she won one race from one visit and had a 100% record. She often hacks past the track with Anne and has a good look through the gates, but she doesn't show any desire to venture inside. Copper has a new friend called Dibley, a giant chestnut gelding, but Anne assures us that it's Copper who is in charge.

Contrast joined us in 2019 having won twice for Richard hannon. He added six wins to his tally for owners Ash Saha and then the Laura Mason Syndicate before falling out of love with racing earlier this year.

A real stable favourite, Contrast was rehomed to Dawn Beattie in Norfolk. We knew that Dawn would provide a five star home as she rehomed a horse called Sneak The Peek several years ago. Sneak The Peek enjoyed his jumping and Dawn says her jumping days are behind her, so he is now owned by another lady at the same yard and Dawn can see him regularly too.

Contrast is enjoying life as a riding horse and has started hacking out with his new friend Rolo.

"I just love him," says Anne. "He's just so gorgeous, such a loving little horse. I see him every day and give him cuddles, there must be something about you horses he's another one loves cuddles."
We love to see our horses happy and enjoying life after providing us with so much enjoyment on the racecourse and we always make sure that our horses find good home. Whether they've been winners on the track or alternatvely failed to make the racing grade, they all get chance to find a new career.
